DISASTER RELIEF There are many organizations providing much needed supplies in response to the catastrophic earthquake that occurred in Haiti in January as well as other disasters around the world. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in cooperation with the Lutheran World Federation provides emergency food, water, shelter and medical supplies in times of disaster. ELCA Disaster Response and Lutheran World Relief are accepting monetary donations for these relief efforts on an on-going basis. Please contribute to these needs by sending a check, donating by phone or going on-line:

LUTHERAN GIFTS FOR HAITI EXCEED $4.6 MILLION
In just over 3 weeks, the Million Dollar Challenge from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans was attained. That means Thrivent members contributed $2 millions dollars for Haiti relief, which was matched by Thrivent with another $1 million in February 2010.
In addition to the Thrivent donations, ELCA Disaster Response has received more than $1.6 million for assistance to Haiti. Recipients include the Lutheran World Federation to help provide shelter to people left homeless by the earthquake, Lutheran World Relief for material aid, Church World Service for construction of temporary water systems and distribution of water purification materials, and Lutheran Services of Florida for initial support to refugees and Haitian Americans entering or returning to the U.S.
Continue to pray for the people of Haiti and for all who are affected by disaster anywhere. May they be instilled with hope and promise for the future.
